Our team is proud to announce the publication of our latest research in BMJ Open, titled “Concordance, motivations, and associated factors of COVID-19 vaccination among parent–child dyads.” This cross-sectional study, conducted in the Caraga Region, Philippines, provides critical insights into parental decisions impacting children’s COVID-19 vaccination uptake.
Key Highlights:
- Low Uptake for Children: While 80.6% of parents were vaccinated, only 36.2% chose to vaccinate their children.
- Influential Factors: Parental education and vaccination status were strongly associated with children’s vaccination. For instance, unvaccinated parents were six times more likely to have unvaccinated children.
- Psychological Distress: Nearly half of the parents experienced psychological distress, with higher levels observed in underserved populations.
The study emphasizes the importance of engaging parents actively in vaccination programs, focusing on education and awareness rather than mandates to enhance pediatric vaccination rates. These findings contribute to the development of effective communication strategies to address vaccine hesitancy among parents.
